Mac „Retro“ Satin Finish – Review & Swatches

Hey Guys

Welcome back to The Real Wonderland…

I know it’s been a while but exams and papers were killing me, haha. Now that I started my internship, I’m happy that I have more time for my blog again! Without talking too much, let’s jump right into the review.

Hallo ihr Lieben

Willkommen zurück bei The Real Wonderland…

The Color

When I first saw the lipstick in a MAC store, I fell in love! MAC describes the shade as a „muted peachy-pinky brown“. It is a darker brown shade with just the right amount of peach, pink and plum tones to it, so perfect for me. You know, I had to get it. The lipstick comes in a satin finish so it is creamer than a matte one but still has opaque coverage with only one swipe. The finish is rather semi-matte and transfers a little, still it is quite long-lasting and wears perfectly for about 5 hours.

The Perfect Everyday Shade

How would I combine this shade? Well, as I’ve said, I love these shades so much because you can pretty much wear them with everything. I love combining this shade with (deep) brown or burgundy eyeshadows or just to add a pop of color for an everyday, more natural look. I have to admit that the shade appears to be darker and more reddish than MAC’s swatch on the website, so I recommend to swatch and try it on in stores before you purchase it – I assume that cool-toned and fair skin types have problems with this pretty warm lipstick.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So pretty much: I love this lipstick – I’d wear it nonstop but that’s just too boring (and I have too many other lipsticks as well… :D) Did you try this shade already? Or which one is your favorite MAC lipstick? Let me know in the comments, so I can test some new shades…

MAC Star Trek Collection Review – „Where No Man Has Gone Before“

Hey Guys

Welcome back to my blog! I know it’s been a while since this lipstick was released but still, I’m gonna show it to you and give you a full review as I only had the chance to really try this one in the recent weeks…

What am I talking about? The MAC Star Trek lipstick in the shade “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. This limited edition or rather saying whole product line of Star Trek make-up was released in September for celebrating the 50th anniversary and „Star Trek Beyond“.

Den MAC Star Trek Lippenstift in der Farbe „Where No Man Has Gone Before“.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I just loved all the shades – especially of the lipsticks and the highlighters/bronzers – the shimmer and the design were simply amazing. I knew I had to have one product out of this line and I went for the lipstick. I mean it took me a while to find it as it was sold out everywhere so quickly but I finally got it online at Mac.

The Packaging
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
A caption with flash to see the reflections

One could say it is the usual Mac packaging but they added a little shimmer to the lipstick packaging and the famous Star Trek icon saying 50. So nothing too extraordinary for a limited edition – I might have expected a cooler and more shimmery lipstick packaging but still, this one looks elegant and simple.

The Shade

First of: Puh! What a loooong name for a lipstick – say that three times in a row please without breaking your tongue 😉

I’d consider this shade to be a cool-toned electric pink with warm golden shimmer. The shimmer and finish make it very day-time appropriate otherwise I’d find this to be too bold… It is a lustre finish so the coverage is semi-transparent and needs to be re-applied after some hours. Although it has quite some glitter and shimmer to it, the lipstick applied very evenly and smooth on my lips and felt neither stiff nor „hard“…

You can wear this shade either all on its own for a very natural look or on top of a nude or pinky lip to give it some extra shimmer and shine.

Ich würde sagen, „Where No Man Has Gone Before“ ist ein eher kühles, leuchtendes pink mit warmen, goldenen Schimmer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Overall, I’m really satisfied with this color – I had to get used to the coverage as I mostly wear full coverage and matte lipsticks. But after a little time I could handle it and the finish with its golden shimmer just looks gorgeous! Especially when the sun is shining…

Did you get any items of the Star Trek collection? What did you think of this lipstick?

Sleek Cleopatra’s Kiss Highlighting Palette – Get Your Spring Glow

Hey Guys!

Today, I prepared a review about one of my favorite highlighting palettes – the Sleek Solstice Palette in the shade ‚Cleopatra’s Kiss‘. Right now for spring time, this palette offers a really stunning color variety. This time – besides the review and swatches – I also included some inspirations for make-up looks using this palette…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Overview

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Let me just say that I love love love this gold packaging! The black cardboard pretty much hides the beautiful packaging inside… Not one of my favorite – at a first glance, this wouldn’t attract me… Generally, the palette looks really sleek (haha) and closes magnetically. The size is perfect for putting in your bag and for traveling.

It contains four highly pigmented shades, each of them being about 2.2g and retails for 12.49€. Further, you have a mirror inside which is big enough to actually use it to get ready on the way or to check your make-up and a little, flat brush (I find it to be very stiff, so I don’t use this one). You can buy this palette via amazon (where it tends to be a little bit more expensive) or simply on the Sleek Make-Up Website, however it’s almost always out of stock.

The Shades

Two of the shades are baked powder highlighter, whereas the other two have a creamy consistency. Let’s have a closer look at the shades (from top left to bottom right):

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sphinx – a baked powder and a golden, bronzy shade with glitter particles (that’s my favorite shade of the whole palette)

Delta – a cream highlighter and a true bronze with shimmer

Dynasty – another cream highlight, this time with a champagne/light golden shimmer

Goddess – the second baked highlighter is rather a rose golden shade (mixed with Sphinx it looks fantastic)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Overall, I am really impressed by the pigmentation of all of the shades! The baked highlighters tend to be a bit dry and if you didn’t wet your brush you might risk some fall-out. When you layer the highlight and don’t apply too much product at once, it works perfectly fine.

In the beginning I also had some trouble with applying the cream highlighters and I figured it’s much easier with a beauty sponge than with a make-up brush. The cream shades are really shimmering and need to be blended out (I don’t like o shine too much…). Also, you can set these shades by using one of the powder highlighters which results in a duochrome look…

I find the product to be very long-lasting – it wears great on me for a least 6 hours but I always use a matte setting spray before I leave the house. Still, I think the included brush is really useless (I’m sorry Sleek…) as it just causes an emended fall-out and is simply not soft enough to evenly apply and blend the powder shades. I threw it away…

So all in all, I’m in love with this palette, the colors are please me and can be combined for a more individual look. The price for four highlighters is simply amazing and the quality as well… Definitely recommend this palette!

Maybelline Fit me! – New Make-Up Routine

Hey Guys!

Welcome back to the Real Wonderland! Today, I prepared a little review about my new favorites out of the line Maybelline Fit me! that really enriched my everyday make-up routine. All in all, I purchased three items of the whole line.  But see for yourself…

set fit me.jpg

Fit me! Matte + Poreless Foundation

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

As I am one of those girl tending to have quite oily skin in my T-zone – especially during summer time – I am always looking for rather matte foundations where my skin is not too shiny. The matte + powerless foundation promises to cover up little break-outs, mattifies and softens the skin out. Sounds quite promising, so I HAD to try it…

I chose the shade 105 „Natural Ivory“ however they offer 16 different shades ranging from really light to colors for darker skin. Mine really fits me when I’m not tanned. The application with a brush worked evenly and it didn’t feel thick or uncomfortable while wearing, rather soft. Probably that’s because of the powder particles inside the fluid that also leave a soft focus, poreless and matte finish on the skin. After one application, my red spots and any unevenness was simply gone – the coverage can still be intensified in areas with more breakouts. Also, it wore perfect for about 8 hours and didn’t crumble around my nose and most importantly it didn’t look cakey nor shiny. The only downturn is that it comes in this tube and doesn’t have a pump…

Fit me! Concealer

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The concealer is said to be the perfect dupe for the NARS Radiant Creamy, not only the packaging but also the finish… Here, I have the shade „fair“ which has more of a rosy undertone than the „light“ one. What’s said is that they only offer four different, lighter shades – so not really suitable for darker skin tones.

The concealer feels really creamy when applying and blending with a beauty sponge and the coverage is really opaque, still, it doesn’t look nor feel thick or cakey. For me, it perfectly covers my blue circles around my eyes. The only negative aspect is that it creases under my eyes, but when set appropriately with a white setting powder, this doesn’t happen that much.

Fit me! Anti-Shine Stick

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This stick promises a quick application and a long-lasting matte finish. When I first tested it, I really had my doubts because I wasn’t too familiar with stick foundations and I simply couldn’t even out the shade…

I picked mine in the shade 115 and as you can see, the middle is quite lighter and should avoid to make you look oily and shiny. Well, after my first use, my face looked shiny and uneven – I couldn’t handle the stick. After googling a lot I tried to apply only some stripes throughout my face and I blended it with a wet beauty sponge instead of a foundation brush. And voilà, it looked better! Overall, it gives my skin a very comfortable and soft feeling and it doesn’t look cakey anymore. Another pro is the fact that I don’t need a powder to set the foundation, it feels quite powdery already. Moreover, the stick helped to stop my face from looking too shiny and it lasted perfect for some decent 6-7 hours on me.

So, that was it! Did you also try the Maybelline Fit me! line? What’s your favorite?

Designing my own Eyeshadow Palette Vol. I – Wycon Cosmetics

Hey Guys!

Welcome back to the Real Wonderland, today’s post is going to be about my recently purchased magnetic eyeshadow palette and the refills from the brand Wycon Cosmetics. So for all Italian girls out there, definitely check this brand and their eyeshadows out (as far as I know they only ship to Italy)!

I purchased this magnetic palette and three eyeshadows during my vacation in Italy to test their quality and to finally have an eyeshadow palette where I have all my favorite magnetic shadows from brands like Mac, Makeup Geek or ABH in one single place.

You wanna hear more about this – then let’s jump right into it!

The Palette

The palette I decided to purchase is the „Magnetic Palette Large“ which holds space for 15 refills (Wycon eyeshadow size) from Wycon Cosmetics. It retails for only 6.90€ compared to a large Z palette which is about 19€. It almost looks identical to a black Z palette and is manufactured in the same way – a slim, light-weight cart box that closes magnetically and has a see-through top. The palettes comes in an extra black cart box that protects it from any damages – I find this very useful for traveling. However, when I opened mine and touched the magnetic ground, it had quite some unevenness (I don’t know if that’s very common for this palette) so that the refills were not laying straight in the palette. Still, I don’t find this to be a huge problem, with enough eyeshadows you barely see it.

The Eyeshadows

All in all, Wycon has 81 (!) different shades starting from white matte and shimmery colors over browns, pinks, blues, greens, finishing with grey and black ones – the color range is enormous! Also their price is so affordable as each shadow retails for 3.90€.

packaging

I decided to purchase three eyeshadows – one of it shimmery, another one glittery and the third  one is matte. I wanted to try different formulas and see, whether they all have a great quality. Here is my color selection:

  • No. 3 Champagne Satin – a white, golden shimmery shade that’s perfect for inner corner highlights
  • No. 34 Dark Gold Satin – a glittery, warm golden shade that I use on my entire lid
  • No. 16 Nude Matt – a dusty, warm-toned rose brown which works fine for the crease

Overall I am more than satisfied with the quality of all the eyeshadows. The pigmentation is really good, especially for the crease color. So it means you don’t need that much product at one time but can intensify the color more and more. To have a really bright white and gold I wetted my brushes and also used an eyeshadow primer to make the colors last longer and to have a brighter result. The only problem I faced is with the more glittery shade as it tends to have some fall out. Also the satin finish seems to look different as No. 3 is more a shimmery finish, whereas No. 34 is glittery when you applied it onto your lids.

Considering the actual product you get for the price I realized that the pans are a lot bigger than other eyeshadow refills like ABH or MakeupGeek! That makes it a good product and money value overall…

Have you also recently purchased any refills or magnetic palettes and eyeshadows? Let me know down below in the comments and to check out Wycon’s shades and palettes, visit their website. Stay tuned for Vol. 2 of designing my personal eyeshadow palette!
