Mac „Retro“ Satin Finish – Review & Swatches

Hey Guys

Welcome back to The Real Wonderland…

I know it’s been a while but exams and papers were killing me, haha. Now that I started my internship, I’m happy that I have more time for my blog again! Without talking too much, let’s jump right into the review.

The Color

When I first saw the lipstick in a MAC store, I fell in love! MAC describes the shade as a „muted peachy-pinky brown“. It is a darker brown shade with just the right amount of peach, pink and plum tones to it, so perfect for me. You know, I had to get it. The lipstick comes in a satin finish so it is creamer than a matte one but still has opaque coverage with only one swipe. The finish is rather semi-matte and transfers a little, still it is quite long-lasting and wears perfectly for about 5 hours.

The Perfect Everyday Shade

How would I combine this shade? Well, as I’ve said, I love these shades so much because you can pretty much wear them with everything. I love combining this shade with (deep) brown or burgundy eyeshadows or just to add a pop of color for an everyday, more natural look. I have to admit that the shade appears to be darker and more reddish than MAC’s swatch on the website, so I recommend to swatch and try it on in stores before you purchase it – I assume that cool-toned and fair skin types have problems with this pretty warm lipstick.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So pretty much: I love this lipstick – I’d wear it nonstop but that’s just too boring (and I have too many other lipsticks as well… :D) Did you try this shade already? Or which one is your favorite MAC lipstick? Let me know in the comments, so I can test some new shades…

Hallo ihr Lieben

Willkommen zurück bei The Real Wonderland…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

MAC Star Trek Collection Review – „Where No Man Has Gone Before“

Hey Guys

Welcome back to my blog! I know it’s been a while since this lipstick was released but still, I’m gonna show it to you and give you a full review as I only had the chance to really try this one in the recent weeks…

What am I talking about? The MAC Star Trek lipstick in the shade “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. This limited edition or rather saying whole product line of Star Trek make-up was released in September for celebrating the 50th anniversary and „Star Trek Beyond“.

Den MAC Star Trek Lippenstift in der Farbe „Where No Man Has Gone Before“.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I just loved all the shades – especially of the lipsticks and the highlighters/bronzers – the shimmer and the design were simply amazing. I knew I had to have one product out of this line and I went for the lipstick. I mean it took me a while to find it as it was sold out everywhere so quickly but I finally got it online at Mac.

The Packaging
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
A caption with flash to see the reflections

One could say it is the usual Mac packaging but they added a little shimmer to the lipstick packaging and the famous Star Trek icon saying 50. So nothing too extraordinary for a limited edition – I might have expected a cooler and more shimmery lipstick packaging but still, this one looks elegant and simple.

The Shade

First of: Puh! What a loooong name for a lipstick – say that three times in a row please without breaking your tongue 😉

I’d consider this shade to be a cool-toned electric pink with warm golden shimmer. The shimmer and finish make it very day-time appropriate otherwise I’d find this to be too bold… It is a lustre finish so the coverage is semi-transparent and needs to be re-applied after some hours. Although it has quite some glitter and shimmer to it, the lipstick applied very evenly and smooth on my lips and felt neither stiff nor „hard“…

You can wear this shade either all on its own for a very natural look or on top of a nude or pinky lip to give it some extra shimmer and shine.

Ich würde sagen, „Where No Man Has Gone Before“ ist ein eher kühles, leuchtendes pink mit warmen, goldenen Schimmer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Overall, I’m really satisfied with this color – I had to get used to the coverage as I mostly wear full coverage and matte lipsticks. But after a little time I could handle it and the finish with its golden shimmer just looks gorgeous! Especially when the sun is shining…

Did you get any items of the Star Trek collection? What did you think of this lipstick?

Favorite Fall Blushes – Mac Fever & Swiss Chocolate

Hey Guys!

And welcome back to the Real Wonderland! Time’s flying so fast and it’s already fall and almost Halloween. So today, I prepared a little post about my favorite fall blushes – Mac Fever & Swiss Chocolate.

Let’s jump right into it!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mac powder blushes come in 4 different formulas:

  • Sheertone Shimmer – a shimmering blush that gives the face quite some glow (no opaque coverage)
  • Sheertone – a nicely shimmering finish with a little transparency
  • Satin – a creamy finish with semi-opaque coverage
  • Matte – a neutral finish, without any shine, easy to blend out the intense colors

My two blushes come with the formula matte, as this one just blends easily and the shades have a great color pay-off.

Mac Powder Blush „Fever“ (6g for 24.50€)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mac describes this shade as a „red-burgundy tone“ which fits it perfectly! The shade is a really nice darker red that reminds me of typical fall leaves that begin to fall from the trees. This blush has an amazing color pay-off so be careful and don’t use too much product otherwise you end up looking totally red in your face. However it blends very easy and feels rather creamy not really dusty – there’s no fall-out when applying it.

There are so many possibilities for wearing this blush! With a more natural look, only some mascara, a nude lipstick and only a little (!) amount of blush or for a night out or a more dramatic looks with smokey eyes (maybe in brown with a little touch of gold) and a darker plum/wine red lisptick where you accentuate your cheek bones.

Mac Powder Blush „Swiss Chocolate“ (6g for 24.50€)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Mac calls this blush a „soft cocoa color“ which I agree to and add that his is more on the warmer side and a light to medium brown, just as milkchocolate. This blush is multi usable – I use it as a blush and also for contouring. Mostly I mix this shade together with Fever to have a darker red/brownish shade to accentuate my cheeks when wearing a mkore dramatic face makeup.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHowever it’s also really good for contouring, especially because it is so easy to blend and the pigmentation is as well amazing! The intensity can easily be increased by just adding a little more color and the shade really has opaque coverage so that it is just perfect as a contour color. Just a little secret by the way, when traveling or in need of a matte crease color, I use it as a transition shade in my crease and blend it with a crease brush to give my eyes more depth!

Here are some swatches for you to see these great fall colors!

Mac „Dubonnet“ Amplified Finish – Review & Swatch

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I finished my internship this week and prepare everything for my trip to France, Italy and Austria in 6 (!!!) days, yay!

This time I’d like to show you one of my favorite lipsticks at the moment, the Mac „Dubonnet“ with an amplified finish. I found this one by accident at a Mac counter, I was actually looking for the shade „Diva“ but for summer I found it too purple and dark. Thus, I decided to go with a bordeaux red shade: Dubonnet!

„Dubonnet“ – Amplified Finish (3g for 20.50€ via Mac)

5.jpgFirst of, the texture. Amplified is

  • highly pigmented
  • creamy when applying
  • opaque
  • long-lasting
  • almost matte with a slight shine

Overall, I really like this texture and the easy application.

The color is described as a ‚deepened claret‘ (wine red)according to Mac and well, it suits the shade. It’s a warm and deep wine or bordeaux red that is perfect for going out or for a classic red lipstick look. However it has a bit of brown in it and works well on nearly every skin tone. Additionally, the lipstick also provides for a sheen shimmer.

The application is as simple as it could be! One swipe and you’re ready to go. It gives opaque coverage with just one layer and feels so smooth and soft when applying. Also afterwards, the lipstick more or less feels like a glossy cream or balm and for me it’s not at all drying after some time. The color looks great for more than 4 hours and after it dried you can eat or drink without wearing any irregularities. Still, when applying too much, the color can fizzle a bit. But either with just one layer or a lip liner everything works out well.

The pigmentation and the shade are just amazing for an everyday look or a dangerous and vampy look in the evening or for a night-out.

So I have to say, I love this shade. As I always love darker reds, this one is a perfect contriution to my collection and it lasts the whole day which is very good being on-the-go all the time!

Here’s a swatch to see yourself…

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish „Soft&Gentle“ – Review & Swatches

Welcome Back!

Since I lately posted about my Top 5 Bronzers, I now have a review for you on the Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Highlighter „Soft&Gentle“. It’s the perfect product to combine with one of the five bronzers… Also in two days another post about the Guerlain Météorites Highlighter will follow.
It took a long time until I finally decided to buy this highlighter as it is quite pricy. So I always went into a Mac store to ask them to apply the highlighter on me before I went shopping, haha. But after about a month, I finally bought it, well my mum purchased it, I annoyed her so much with this product, she just had to.

One of the Mac employees also let me know that this shade is the most popular one from this range when searching for a highlighter so I recommend you to check this product out when looking for a nice, warm and overall famous highlighter.

But now, let’s start reviewing!

„Soft & Gentle“ – Mineralize Skinfinish (32€ for 10g via Mac)

Mac describes this shade as a „gilded peach bronze“ and I definitely have to agree. The shaOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAde of this product is very warm and golden, combined with a slight amount of peach and beige color. It is a really metallized and shimmering shade, so perfect as a cheek bone highlighter. This product should give a radiant finish and glow.

The packaging is of a very good quality, it comes in the standard black box, once opened the box, black as well, contains a magnifying glass and a magnet fastening. It feels very light in my hands and is also easy to transport because it does not open in your cosmetic bag.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe powder is easy to apply, I use my Zoeva highlighting brush and mostly need one application to have a good highlighting on my face. This shade gives a nice and warm shimmering finish and fits perfectly to a bronzed and slightly tanned skin tone. However the Soft & Gentle also fits to light and fair skin tones when applying thrifty.

The color is very buildable and gives almost opaque coverage. The main purpose of this skinfinish product is to produce shimmering highlights which it definitely fulfills. Further, the product neither crumbles nor creases but is very soft when applying. Personally I find it also a bit dust when applying too much product at the same time, so I recommend to build up the coverage when it is not satisfying after the first application.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You can additionally use this product to highlight your brows and also your cubits. When I’m traveling I tend to use as an eyeshadow color for the inner corner of my eyes.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Which highlighter do you use? Or what are your experiences with the Soft & Gentle skinfinish? Let me know.
